Images may vary slightly from platform to platform (these images were captured on Windows XP; there are both cosmetic and substantive navigation differences on other platforms).

Before you start
  1. Make sure your modem is connected to the phone line.
  2. Make sure your system recognizes the modem - Click Start, then click on Control Panel, then click on Network and Internet Connections.
  3. On the left-hand side of the screen, click on Phone and Modem Options.
  4. On the Phone and Modem Options window, click on Modems.
  5. If a modem is installed on your system, it will be listed in the box below the phrase: "The following modems are installed:". If there is no modem listed, follow the setup instructions that came with your modem.
  6. Look up an appropriate telephone number at http://wdyllc.com/support/. You can search by area code or state within the contiental U.S. to find a local dial number. Telephone toll charges may apply for some numbers on the list; check with your telephone company to be sure.

1. Start the New Connection Wizard

There are multiple ways to start the new connection wizard. We recommend that you:

  1. Click on Start.
  2. Click on Control Panel .
  3. Click on Network and Internet Connections .
  4. Click on Create New Connection

2. Set the Connection Type

The appropriate connection type is "Connect to the Internet."

3. Set how you connect to the Internet

For WDY Enterprises, LLC dial-up services, you must select the "Set up my connection manually" option.

4. Set how you connect to the Internet

These instructions apply to creating dial-up modem connections to the Internet only.

5. Name your connection

We like to use a descriptive name, such as "WDYLLC National Dialup", but you can name it whatever you want.

6. Set the Phone Number

You should use an appropriate telephone number, that you found at http://wdyllc.com/support/. We support searches by area code or state within the contiental U.S. to find a "local dial number." Telephone toll charges may apply for some numbers on the list; check with your telephone company to be sure.

7. Set Connection Availability

To comply with your user agreement, which specifies that dial-up accounts are non-transferrable, you should click on the "My Use Only" button.

8. Provide authentication inormation

Your username will look a lot like an e-mail address. If your account name is 'jsmith', then your dialup username will be 'jsmith@gcfn.org'.

If you don't enter your password correctly, dial-up won't work.

You don't have to make this connection your default connection, but you probably want to.

9. Finish setup

Note that you don't have to create a shortcut on your desktop, unless you want to.

10. Ready to dial

You should be able to just click 'dial' and things should just work. To disconnect, find the icon for this connection, right click on it, go to "disconnect". Your connection icon may be on your desktop, may be a tiny icon next to the system clock (usually in the lower-right-hand corner of your screen), or can be found at Start : Control Panel : Network and Internet Connections.
